Content is king, or why design does not matter

Nobody comes to your website to admire the colours or animations. People come with a problem they want to solve - and the first five seconds decide everything.

Content is king, or why design does not matter

Let us be honest.

Nobody comes to your website to admire the colours, animations or the typeface.

People come because they have a problem - and they want to solve it.

The first five seconds decide

Every visitor decides within 5 seconds whether they stay or leave.

Five seconds. That is all you have.

In that moment it has to be absolutely clear:

  • what you do,
  • who you do it for,
  • and what problem you help solve.

Nothing more, nothing less.

When I am looking for insulation, I do not want a drill

Imagine you want to insulate your house. You are looking for insulation materials.

And suddenly you land on a website that sells drills.

The design is gorgeous, everything moves, the photos gleam. But you are looking for insulation, not tools.

Click - and you are gone. Because the design does not solve your problem.

The customer does not care how beautiful the website is

The customer is not thinking about whether you have a modern gradient, a 3D button or the right shade of blue.

They care about one single thing: "Will this page help me?"

If they do not get the answer within a few seconds, they leave for the competition.

Content sells. Design helps.

Design has one single job - to help the content be understandable. Not to drown it out.

The content has to answer the questions:

  • What do you offer?
  • Who is it for?
  • How does it help?

If you do not say this quickly and clearly, no design will save you.

A little test for you

Try opening your website and translating it through Google into Arabic or Chinese.

If you could not understand the text - would you be able to tell from the design what you actually offer? Would you stay on the page?

Probably not, right?! Your website can be beautiful, but what really decides is its CONTENT.

Summary

Content is king. Design is its servant. And if you swap them around, it ends badly.

P.S. A website that does not say "what you are dealing with and how I will help you" is not a website. It is just a picture on the internet.
